Community program
A Big Brother or Big Sister spends a consistent amount
of time each week for at least one year with a child and engages in activities
that both the volunteer and the child enjoy. Since Big Brothers and
Big Sisters are positive role models, a well-developed and trusted relationship
with a ‘Big’ can boost a child’s self-confidence, grades
and social interaction. For more information about the Community Program contact Meagan at
(815) 758-8616. Or if you are matched and want to do a monthly ‘check-in’,
call (815) 758-8616.
School-Based program
A Big Brother or Big Sister spends about an hour per week for at least one school year with a child at their school, during the school day and engages in activities that both the volunteer and the child enjoy. Children benefit by receiving companionship, attention, friendship and guidance from a caring and nurturing volunteer. A ‘Big’ can boost a child’s self-confidence, grades and social interaction.
