2011 50 Men Who Cook

Saturday, August 6, 2011 at

Barsema Alumni & Visitors Center (on NIU campus)

6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Prominent men from DeKalb County will once again be cooking their favorite dishes including appetizers, side dishes, entrees, desserts and grilling (new this year). The evening will include dinner (sampling of dishes), cash bar, entertainment and a raffle.  Guests taste test each dish and vote for their favorite in each category during the event.

50 Men Who Cook is an annual fundraiser that benefits the children of DeKalb County. All proceeds from this unique event benefit CASA DeKalb County and Family Service Agency of DeKalb County. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, August 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Barsema Alumni & Visitors Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University.

CASA DeKalb County, Inc. is a non-profit organization that acts on behalf of the best interests of abused and neglected children in the DeKalb County Juvenile Court. CASA currently serves over 170 children and case numbers are growing rapidly. CASA trains volunteers to act as appointed representatives to the court, empowering the volunteers to make lifelong differences in the lives of children.

Family Service Agency is one of the oldest social service agencies in DeKalb County and devotes its focus to protecting and developing children and older adults through four distinct departments: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Center For Counseling, Children’s Advocacy Center and Senior Services. Each department offers unique services to assist children, families and older adults through life transitions.

Tickets for 50 Men Who Cook are $40 per person and can be purchased at:  Family Service Agency, 14 Health Services Drive in DeKalb; CASA DeKalb County, 407 W State Street, Sycamore; Crum-Halstead Agency, 2350 Bethany Road, Sycamore; NB&T Bank, Downtown Sycamore location; Resource Bank – Sycamore, Cortland or Genoa locations; or online at www.50menwhocookdekalb.com.

Chefs come from all walks of life and have historically included Bob Pritchard, Mayor Povlsen, Judge Doherty, Mayor McCabe, Dr. Jim Briscoe and a host of many other very generous DeKalb County men. Last year's winners were: Allen Brinkman who cooked Chopped Pork with Cole Slaw; Brian Cada who cooked A-maizing Corn Salad; Cary Singer who cooked Cherry/Raspberry Squares; and Drew Wells who cooked Deep Fried Thai Spring Rolls with Sweet Chili Dipping Sauce. The 50 Men Who Cook committee is still registering chefs. If interested, please register on the 50 Men Who Cook website.

This fundraiser proves to continually be a fun, community event. Again this year, there will be live entertainment provided by Craig and Hannah Mathey. For more information call Family Service Agency at (815) 758-8616 or CASA at (815) 895-2052.
